Two years ago we traveled to Sanibel Island off the gulf coast of Florida. We got away from it all and it really made the winter flow much more easily than any other winter before or since. Now awaiting a new child, no such plans exist for 2011.
It is amazing how difficult it is to recreate a perfect vacation. On Sanibel I was sick for 24 hours, but making it a two-week vacation really helped to stifle that memory. Last year, my wife and I went to Amelia Island (Atlantic coast of Florida this time) and had a sublime visit. Unfortunately the horrendous return flight ate away just about all the relaxation and rejuvenation we enjoyed.
I love vacations with built in time to relax; built in time to reflect on life. Someday I’ll want to see more and do more. Right now when I vacation I generally want to forget all but the core of my existence.
